Spanish pension - per child top up?

Hello all. This forum has been incredibly helpful in the past so thought I'd try my luck once again...

My mum is in Spain, and has lived there since about 2001, working for, I think, maybe the last 15 years or so. She's preparing to take her state pension, and has asked me for a copy of my passport on the basis of a Spanish scheme whereby pensioners receive a supplement per child.

Now, without going into too much detail, my mum and I haven't always had the best relationship, and she also has a bit of history of... let's say, creative accounting. So I'm coming at this with a slight degree of wariness.

I've had a quick Google, and notwithstanding the language barrier, it all looks legit - the Spanish Government want to address the gender gap, partly recognising the long term financial impact of having children, and have introduced this pension payments top up. I couldn't see any restriction based on immigration or residency status of those children.

But I wanted to see if anybody had any further insight or words of caution on this scheme I should know about?

If you're not keen on sending a photocopy of your passport, point out to her that it is a travel document, not a proof of age. She can order a copy of your birth certificate for herself - that's a public document. https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Passport seems an odd requirement - I'd have thought that her marriage certificate and  a  copy of your birth certificate would have been the appropriate documents?

Apparently it's a two forms of ID thing - she has my birth certificate, and would normally be submitted alongside a copy of the Spanish identity card, but in the absence of that they're asking for a passport.
