Multifocal Contact Lenses

Anyone have experience of these. I bought some with a recent prescription and found them very blurry. Neither far nor close vision was good. In fact they would be very dangerous to drive with. Think I'll stick with single (far) vision ones in future.

    Tried 'em, binned 'em.
  • My optician gave me a few pairs to try out, didn't really suit. Vision was not as good as single-focus lenses for distance (-5.5) or for close-up with reading specs (+2). Might be better if your vision prescription was "lesser".

And the cost was x3 my usual lenses.

Did you just use your glasses prescription to order on linen or did you have a proper fitting?

Multifocal lenses can take a lot of tweaking, most brands offer a range of adds and some a distance or reading bias, alone with some brands offering different base curves compared to others, whilst most multifocal lenses ( I can think of 2 exceptions) don't have the option to correct astigmatism. There are a lot of variables including considering the dominant eye may need to be modified with more of a bias for distance to aid driving etc!.

Not everyone will,be able to,adapt to multifocal lenses, as their brain just doesn't get it, others find it too much of a compamise with regards to trying to balance reading and computer use for work. Some people prefer a lens for distance in one eye and reading in the other, even then it may be necessary to wear glasses that effectively brind the reading eye back to distance.

Ultimately if you have been through a fitting for multifocal contact lenses and after lots of tweaking it's still not working consider a distance correction and wear glasses for near.
