Storing tomato sauce in jars...

I have discovered 3 bags of last year's tomatoes in my freezer, and am wondering whether to make a batch of tomato sauce to use them.
However, I don't want to put that sauce back into the freezer as I'm trying to empty it.

Can I store the sauce in hot, sterilised jars, as if it were jam? And if so, how long will it keep?

According to my preserves book it should last for 6 months if kept in a cool place.  Remember to leave a bit of headroom in each jar/bottle.

Thanks -taff but I didn't really want to "bottle" or "can" it. If that's the only way to keep it other than freezing, it will have to be frozen in bags 😕
