Isn't this a bit like printing presses being destroyed in the middle ages by those that were concerned that they would put scribes out of work!

    The world moves on.....

Myself and millions of others drive for a living, we or you, won't be replaced overnight.
It will take years, if at all.
I am reaching the age where I want to work less, so change doesn't bother me. I work for a local authority, term time only, my job changes every September.

From the article you linked to:

The client wanted to experiment with AI because it was cheaper and faster.

That experiment turned out to be a failure. Viewers complained about the quality of the voiceover and eventually the channel took down the videos that featured the AI-generated voice.

I've also experimented with using otter.ai for voiceovers and no matter how much I tweaked it there was no way it could replace my own dulcet and beautifully accented tones  :p

I use ChatGPT and Google Bard extensively to critique my copy and make suggestions - everyone on my team does. What we don't do is get it to write everything for us because, as we've discovered, it falls into that very human trap of using the same stock phrases and key words over and over again. Yes I can prompt it to do lots of rewrites, but my fellow writers and myself like to express our words in our own way, so for us it's like having an assistant, not an equal.

So no, none of us at my workplace are worried about being replaced any time soon.

I am not worried about AI, it is just another technology and whilst it will bring about change, we will adapt just as we have done with every other technology.

You do realise another job has been created there? Who do you think teaches AI how to write things in the first place (and the reason behind AI using the same stock phrases and key words over and over again, those are the ones that it has been taught to recognise and being more commonly used)?.

My son was involved in some of the teaching of AI  a job he initially started when he was doing his computer degree and keeps on as a side hustle now. In a complete Sheldon moment after being involved in a task where he taught AI to write speeches, he told his bride to be that he was going to use it to write his groom's speech (yes he was being serious), she didn't find it as funny as I did.
  • I'm a freelance copywriter/digital marketer for a living and AI is a long way off replacing my job and skillset. However, it certainly has a place in assisting me on some tasks.
  • Thank you for your help
