Gut feeling says this new tariff is for the ethical people out there and not ROI or profit.
Long term this is exactly what should happen to help reduce the country's CO2 emissions but its that country over. Lub mentality that you'll never get 100% take up of.

I'm not sure I follow why the battery manufacturer is important for this, is this more to do with controlling the inverter (GivEnergy) to charge batteries when energy is spare and cheap?
There is a clue in the word Intelligent. Octopus has an Intelligent EV tariff which, as yet, is not compatible with all EVs or EVSEs. Once enrolled, Octopus chooses when to charge the EV not the consumer. I suspect that Intelligent Flux will work the same way. If consumers want to manually control import and export then they might be better off on Flux.

I'm not sure why a battery owner would give up control and the reduced rate "charge up" period from 2am - 5am though still accept a peak rate between 4pm - 7pm? I run the washing m/c and dishwasher at 2am, which over the year pays for a takeaway compared to using "spare" energy which could be exported  :D More of an issue is what happens when we move into GMT and 4pm - 7pm just becomes a penalty zone?

    Prices are out and it's 27p import/export between 7pm and 4pm
    36p import/export between 4pm and 7pm
I don't get it, why does it need to be smart controlled then? Are they going to force export at other times of day?

I've read everything I can on this and there's not really a definitive answer, just that they will export when the grid needs it most which I'd assume is between 4pm and 7pm but could vary.
A lot of people will feel uncomfortable having someone else manage their import export so I can't see this being a hugely popular tariff, famous last words........

Just under 24p per kWh for the month (we schedule all appliances to run from 2-5am). We imported ~4 kWh per day and exported roughly 3X that back to the grid.
