My car damaged by Restaurants Pavement sign being blown on to my car.

I was eating at a restaurant. Parked my car outside. Suddenly the large Restaurant sign on the pavement was blown onto the bonnet of my car and it  badly damaged my bonnet. Initially the restaurant owner  said he would get a smart repairer to mend the car. It turns out it cannot be repaired that way and needs a full re-respray of the bonnet. That is over £300. The restaurant owner now says he won't pay. He is not liable and it was an act of God.
I said the sign was not properly secured and he is responsible.
Where do I stand on this?
I believe he is without question responsible.

How do I move forward on this?

Any help appreciated.

refer it to your insurance company and let them sort things with the restaurant owner.

Either could be correct... you parked next to it so clearly it wasn't in such a dodgy state that you would refuse to park there. It ultimately comes down to if a reasonable person would consider the sign to be unsafe in high winds and how predictable the high winds were.
