Are Boots Opticians frames now single use?

When your prescription changed at Boots Opticians you used to be able to have the updated lenses fitted to the existing frames. Last Friday I was told that it was now necessary to buy new frames – last time (2021) my prescription had changed but I needed new frames anyway so it wasn’t an issue. Does anyone know when Boots Opticians changed their policies as I feel that it is not only money making exercise but also a waste of resources as my two year old frames are now obsolete?

    No.
Boots will reglaze (or at least our branch will it seems).
But when my wife asked it was cheaper to have some new frames she had chosen and lenses on their "additional pairs at 50% off" for her prescription than the lenses and reglaze charge at full price.

NB We pick up the extra pairs on Friday.  So the conversation was recent.

Note no reglaze service will guarantee not to break the frames when reglazing and will be left with unusable new lenses... unless the same frame is still made.

My experience at Boots opticians has been exactly as @Rodders53 described.

I particularly liked my previous frames but it was financially far better value to have new ones because Boots always seem to have offers.

    They've always explained that reglazing carries a risk so I don't think that's a new thing. 🤔
