MSE Poll: When did you last check your credit report?

Options
Poll started 18 July 2023

Your credit report can strongly influence whether you get a particular mortgage, credit card deal, mobile phone contract or cheap energy tariff, and sometimes even the rate you're given. Even a small error held on your report can cause havoc, but when did you last check yours?

My payment history is flawless, yet my Credit Score falls short of the top1000 score. Can anyone tell me why this shortfall exists.

It's not only based on your payments.  Read up on how it is rated.  I doubt many people have a very high score..mine is only 89/100. but as I'm never going to have another loan or credit card I'm happy with that.

Looks like the majority who voted aren't as obsessed with "credit ratings" as MSE Martin!

Credit rating agencies are just a money spinning, parasitic industry that most people should ignore imo!
If your credit history is "flawless" then why worry about credit scores conjured up by those who specialise in spreading and concern and apprehension for profit.

They have a number of factors they consider.  One of them is how much credit you already have access to.  So lots of credit limit on cards, and you pay every month is good.  Less credit limit is considered worse, even if you don't need it.
But taking out another credit card would lower your score, because you've applied for new credit.
Don't worry about it.  If the score is "good" or better, you're fine.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
