NHS Uniform

Hi I am thinking of applying for a job in a hospital. I would like to wear a long sleeved shirt under a tunic. I have plenty of tattoos and I would feel more comfortable if they are hidden away. Does anyone if this have any insight into the NHS dress and know if this would be allowed?

Any particular job role in the NHS, there being a variety of them about.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I am not in the NHS but there are religious reasons why someone wouldn't wear short sleeves so I expect their uniform policy is flexible to a certain degree.

Obviously if your planning on performing surgery etc this may be trickier.

A lot of hospitals have a "bare below the elbow" policy if you are working in a clinical environment.

    Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry guys.I completely forgot I posted this. I just checked my email inbox and remembered. Anyhow, the role I applied for Healthcare Assistant so, would that be allowed or be regarded in a clinical environment?

I don't think I've ever seen any member of staff in MIL's care home wearing long sleeves, apart from the maintenance chaps. don't know if that helps ...

That is a clinical role so you will have to be "bare below the elbow"

Unless any of them are offensive I doubt anyone will really care about the tattoos, and if they are offensive you should probably deal with them regardless of career choice.

Definitely a bare below elbows role. Your tattoos shouldn't be a problem though.
  • A lot of NHS staff have tattoos so assuming they are not offensive in any way you will be ok as the uniform for a health care assistant is bare below the elbow. The NHS needs health care assistants so please don’t let your tattoos put you off applying.
