I was tickled by this March 2023 post by @Brie (I hope you don't mind me hijacking, Brie), who encountered this situation while wombling:

"I spotted a pound coin on the pavement near where I used to live and swooped down to pick it up.  Someone had superglued it down.  I suspect they lived in one of the nearby flats and spent entertaining hours watching people."

    I once decided to avoid an expensive train fare by catching a bus (not coach) from Liverpool to Manchester for a day out. You can probably guess where this is going - it was pre-internet so checking journey times wasn't a breeze.  It took three solid hours, meaning we lost a lot of the time we could have spent there. To add insult to injury, not wanting to repeat the experience on the way home, we bit the bullet and got the train, finding that the return fare was cheaper than the standard single!
