in Cutting tax
I decided to file my Self Assessment return a little earlier this year, but have fallen at the first hurdle....
If I go to www.tax.service.gov.uk and select the option to file my return online I get taken to a page relating to business accounts (https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/business-account)
It's telling me: "You must add a tax to your business tax account to manage it online".
I tried calling HMRC support but after 5 minutes of IVR responses it said they were too busy, and terminated the call :0(
Has anyone else had problems accessing self assessment for personal tax?

Why they have to mess with everything when it works just fine is beyond me. Someone with a non job justifying their existence? I agree this new format is horrible. Maybe it's time to quit.1

On the hmrc app there is a self assessment box, click on it and it gives you your current situation along with a green box saying update or submit a return which then takes you direct to the relevant bit on the website. The whole website looks like it was designed by dyslexic monkeys and is a nightmare to navigate. I submitted a return at the weekend and have had 2 messages from them today - the 1st saying they are paying a tax refund for 22-23, the second saying that self assessment is due for 22-23.
The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.0 -
Overpaid on 1st POA for 2022-23 with some of the credit being repaid and some held back by HMRC to pay the tax due on 31 July 2023?
Or one is pre prepared message about the July POA now superseded by the filing of the 2022-23 return?0 -

Having scrolled through the first few pages of comments I don't think I need to add anything further. I guess we all prefer to stick with what we know, unless there is a meaningful benefit to the change. There certainly isn't here. The previous upgrade that allowed various extras disappeared by the wayside fairly quickly. Perhaps this will too. It's as if someone is having to justify their job by doing something.
When I did multiple boards I just kept a tab for each so I didn't have to move from one to the other.1 -

This one does at least work, but as you say more awkward to use.0
