Crown with post keeps coming out.

Hi folks,

One for the dentists if one happens to see it Thanks.

Partner's old crown with post has come out at least five or six times, had it put back in again by dentist, still came out, so finally had a new crown done.

This new crown with post has now came out as well, but has been put back in again.

Getting a little worried that it could become dislodged during sleep, and though reflex action would probably kick in, I'm worried about partner choking on crown.

Any advice appreciated, Thanks so much.

Not quite sure what advice you're after.

Choking in the night is highly unlikely, as you say, there are still protective reflexes whilst your asleep. The only time it's remotely likely is if your partner goes to bed almost unconsciously drunk or stoned, and it decides to fall out then, as reflexes are depressed in those states.

Post crowns are one of the more unreliable restorations, but they are also the very last way you can fix a tooth, and the only alternative is extraction then something to restore the gap (if that is necessary.)

There could be many reasons for this persistent failure, and only a dentist who can see them can assess why this keeps happening.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
