Advice on potential change of notice period from agreed contract after probation completion.

Options
Hi all,

just looking for some advice, when I started in my role the contract that I signed. Stated the below.

Upon passing 6 month probation I would go to 1 month notice.
For the first 4 years stated that I would give a 1 months notice. On completion of the 4 years one extra week will be added for service up to 12 weeks.

I have been at the business for just under a year and half.

When I passed probation, I am sure that the letter I got given said that my notice period has changed to 3 months. I am now confused what my notice period could be, are they able to enforce this change? As I signed the contract that I was happy with.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you've worked on for a further year without objecting, and the letter said what you recollect it said, then you are deemed to have accepted the change.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

What are the likely repercussions if I give them a month like originally agreed and signed for. Seems like there’s not much point in signing a contract if they can change it as they like.

They cannot "change it as they like", an employment contract is not binding in perpetuity. They gave you a letter notifying you of a change, you had the choice to accept it, or reject it, rejecting it may have involved them accepting that rejection, terminating your employment, or a further negotiation.

If you want to leave in one month but have a three month notice period then the first thing you should do is speak to them, then potentially negotiate. Leaving before your notice period is complete, without prior written agreement can result in not insignificant financial implications and is generally highly inadvisable.
