Loose covers for sofa

I have  a 3-seater and a 2-seater sofa that I need to cover. They are eight years old and in a terrible state as they are faux leather (the first and last time I'll buy faux leather!) However they are really very comfortable. Of course I will have to replace them before too long but in the meantime I might just get loose covers. Years ago I bought loose covers for a second hand sofa from a Plumbs shop. Plumbs now seem very expensive for what is only going to be a temporary measure.

There are lots online but reviews are variable.  Does anyone have any recommendations please? Thank you.

I can't remember. I bought them from a local independent store so they're not found in national furniture chains.

In that case, you may be best finding a local upholsterer who can make new covers for you.

If you really love the sofas it is possible to do fairly major leather repairs. Don't know where you live, but try looking up Repair With Care on their facebook page to see what sort of thing can be done.

Try SofaSofa. They do various styles of loose cover in loads of colours and fabrics. Maybe they will do one that is the same shape as yours.

If it's fake leather, I presume the shiny bit has flaked off.

    Would something like this work?

Deal: Granbest Premuim Water Repellent Sofa Covers 3 Seater High Stretch 1 Piece Couch Cover for Dogs Universal Sofa Slipcover Non Slip Furniture Protector Jacquard Spandex Fabric (3 Seater, Grey) https://amzn.eu/d/6UhWixv

I used covers on my fake leather dining chairs and they looked surprisingly good.

Thanks for all your replies. It's not worth spending much on covers as I'll replace the sofa before too long.

If you're replacing the sofas soon it might not be worth having them re-covered.  Have you thought about using throws instead?  Probably less expense and they can be used afterwards.

Yes I use throws at the moment but not really big enough for complete coverage.

Years and years ago on an episode of Changing Rooms (I think) they used inexpensive fabric decorating covers as sofa throws - they are huge. They come in a beige colour but they ran them through a washing machine with a box of coloured dye and they looked good.

I just looked on Amazon and you can get 12ft cotton decorator throws for £39 for a pack of five.
