You need another 14 years of NI contributions, making 37 in total.
Those of us who started work before April 2016 are under transitional arrangements/protections, each with our own very individual calculations. From reports on these boards alone, the minimum is 28 years and the maximum is 50, until someone pops up with less or more! 48 years in my own particular case.1 -
At 6/4/16 (inception of new state pension), two calculations were done for you to establish your "starting amount".
It was the higher of
Old Rules
NI qualifying years/30 (max) x Full Basic State Pension + (Additional State Pension - (if applicable) "Contracted Out Deduction".
16/30 x £119.30 + (ASP - £29.21)
New Rules
(NIQY/35 (max) x Full New State Pension) - (if applicable) Contracted Out Pension Equivalent.
(16/35 x £155.65) - £29.21
As explained by molerat, your SA was that given under the old rules.
You were only forty back in 2016 then so had 26/27 years to go before the tax year when you would reach SPA.
You needed 20/21 of those years to be "qualifying years" to bring your starting amount up to a full NSP.
Once you have reached full NSP, if still working and earning the relevant amount, you will still be required to pay NI until you reach SPA.
