Didn't declare self employed tax yet?

I started self employment last December but didn't put in a tax assessment in April. Did I need too or wait till next April?

This will answer your question and possibly make helpful reading more generally: https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-trader
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

    Neither.

You need to register as self employed with HMRC (sooner rather than later) and would normally have to file your first tax return, and pay any tax owed, by 31 January 2024.
