Can anyone give some reliable info on good value download sites?

New to mp3 scene!!

You could try MUSICMATCH. You used to be able to download a basic version. When you register the software you need to state your location as USA otherwise you'll find you won't be able to use certain elements of the download center - I have no idea of the legality of this but it is in the help section of the their software - so what the hell!

The other option for downloading is KaZaa-lite. Try https://www.kazaa.nl for this software. The quality is sometimes dubious but it's free (until they get shut down). Warning: Kazaa is file-sharing software so be aware of virus' - an up-to-date antivirus checker should do the job.

Personally - I recommend Musicmatch. KaZaa is okay for checking songs out - you know to see if they are the song you want - sometimes though the tagging is shot.

you could try limewire.it's a shareware but i think it's very good.you can go into https://www.download.com and type in limewire into the search panel and you can get a FREE download.hope this helps. ::) ::) ::)

Yes I can vote for Limewire... mp3s in 20 seconds.

However, if you want to keep it really clean, with no P2P s/ware on your PC, then the method below is very effective, depending on the track you want. I used Keane as an example, but try for example, "black eyed" etc.

Goto google.com
Click advanced search
Here's an example search:

With ALL of the words: KEANE
with the exact phrase: "PARENT DIRECTORY"
With at least one of the words: .mp3 .wma (note the dots)
Without the words: FREE MEMBERS (helps to clear out the pay nonsense)

Only then click on results that say "Index of..." in green.

When you see songs listed, right-click and Save Target As....

What you are doing is fishin music files from webspace all over the world. And not a virus in sight...

bittorrent is the new way to 'share' content. There are a few legit sites and many illigitimate sites.

The idea of torrent is that you get from many and give back in full. Or more simply, when you start to download via BitTorrent, you are downloading from others that are downloading and vice versa.

Download a client
Pick a torrent site you like, if you can find a legit one.

Get your anti-virus up to date.

Share (seed) after your download completes.

this is peer to peer software some ISP's block Peer to peer but you may be okay i use Tiscali and it works fine.

very quick downloads works best if you queue up your albums then leave your internet connected over night next day you can get about 4 albums, depending on your ISP speed.

its cool and free, then burn your tracks using the GOD like Itunes for either win or Mac, and away you go...
