If my son transfers ni pension credits to me for looking after his children, i have paid ni for 40 years, retired at age 58, but have gaps for some reason 20/21, 21/22 so far, does it affect his pension in any way when he gets to it - he is employed and pays ni through his employment

It could. Depends how many years he needs for a full state pension and how many he's accrued so far/will build up in future - and how often the law changes between now and when he reaches retirement!Bampydave said:If my son transfers ni pension credits to me for looking after his children, i have paid ni for 40 years, retired at age 58, but have gaps for some reason 20/21, 21/22 so far, does it affect his pension in any way when he gets to it - he is employed and pays ni through his employment
Are you sure it would improve your state pension position?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Does your son receive the child benefit in his name ?He can only transfer the child benefit credits if he is also receiving credits from working - that is why you cannot claim a year until the October after the end of that year so that the records of the donor can be checked. It will not then affect his state pension. What exactly does your forecast show ? Do you need those credits ?Post up a few details and someone will talk you through what you need to do.Current weekly £££.pp amount accrued up to April 2022 (or 2023 as some have been updated)
Number of pre 2016 NI years full
Number of post 2016 NI years full
Tax year you reach state retirement
Any COPE amount shown, in a click link in "You've been in a contracted-out pension scheme" if there is one.

Hi
Based on records weekly is £179.77, if I pay ni 5/4/24 then £191.42, I work casually so may not pay any
Says I have 46 years of full contributions, but gaps 2020/21 and 2021/22 to date
If I pay £728 and £627 for each year I can make those gaps up - and yes I'm assuming the ni credits will help me?
FYI- I retired at age 58 in 2016, took works pension, work casually since but less and less hence not paying ni more recently0
