HMRC not paying overpaid tax

in Cutting tax
Hi everyone,
I submitted a self assessment tax return end of last year for 2021/22 online. All done by submitting company payslips and I had 3 jobs in this period.
HMRC returned a message of overpaid £3000 tax.
This was my first year of self assessment so I left it for a few months assuming they'd automatically refund.
Nothing happened and I was told by colleague that needed to claim, so I did this via the HMRC app. They added interest to the refundable amount for the months it was left unclaimed.
2 months later and app still says "bank payment pending".
I managed to get through to HMRC and advisor said "might be up to 10 weeks or even longer to carry out fraud checks. I can't tell you when you'll be repaid".
Is this normal & is there anything I can do?

Just to be clear... When i quizzed fraud checks HMRC rep clarified these were basic security checks.0

That is entirely possible. The exact timescale is a bit of mystery but a sensible starting point would be to look back at your completed return to make sure you are 100% confident it is accurate and you haven't claimed for something you shouldn't or omitted some income.saunaboy said:Just to be clear... It could be HMRC have held up the refund as they intend investigating your return.0 -
Thanks.
Its definitely accurate in the sense that it all comes from payslips. Reason I had to self assess is I was fortunate enough to break the 100k mark with work.
I had 3 jobs in the submitted period.
One that I'd been in for 10 years for the first 5 months. PAYE.
One that I was only in for 3 months but still PAYE.
One that is well paid and commission based that broke me over 100k. That was for the last 4 months. Still PAYE but I had to submit a self assessment given the salary.
Might be me being naive but not sure what I could've done wrong. Simply uploaded all payslips and entered what was on em into HMRC web form...0 -
I'd even quizzed HR why I was being asked to do a self assessment and they confirmed was salary over 100k that triggered it.0

IThis is the busiest time of year for HMRC.
Your repayment will be in a queue to be allocated to an officer to dot eh security checks. This to check that the claim is correct .
Nobody will know where your case is in that queue.
Time scales given are estimated. It might be sooner or it might be later.0 -
I submitted (sadly) my 22/23 SA ITR in April as I was due a refund. As of yesterday it had not hit the bank account (first time in 10+ years it has not been quick). I logged back in to my SA Tax account, viewed Self-Assessment and it was still showing as pending (even though I had entered my bank account details, and it is the same account they had issued repayments to previously). I had to click the "process repayment" and enter passport and driving licence details ("to prevent fraud") which kicked it into life.
I've been doing tax for 30+ years and never had to do this before, and nowhere told me it was sat there waiting for me to do something.
Good luck and have a look at your tax account/ self-assessment online.0 -
I filled in all that stuff (driving licence and passport) and it said I was due nothing, even though my personal tax shows a repayment pending.0
