Getting a Mortage to Buy Half An Inherited House

A small aside question. I'm a first time buyer and would be able to use a help to buy ISA however is the fact I'd inherit half a property and then buy the other half negate that? Can I buy the house off the estate to be a first time buyer or will I need to transfer the house into joint names before I can buy it.
