Cheapest way to send money to Hungary?

A friend of mine was telling me that she sent some money to Hungary a couple of weeks ago and it cost her £20 to send £100.

Does it really normally cost this much? I've never had to send money abroad before myself so if it wasn't for her mentioning it I wouldn't have a clue as to how expensive this was to do.

It can be very expensive indeed - it is also just as bad to receive foreign currency! I regularly receive small amounts from Canada - my bank charged me £9 to accept $100 postal order from Canada (about £40 - and my Mom had already paid an £15 fee her side on top of that original $100).

We have just set up a Paypal account via EBay and will see if this makes it any cheaper; it certainly has to be more straight forward. I'll be interested in seeing other ideas!
