Parking Fine

Hi
I'm not too sure were to post this, this board seemed to be the most general.
last month a received a parking fine from Excell parking, that I did not deserve due to me having a parking permit. I sent an e-mail to their official appeal address with my details. They e-mailed me back asking for further details which I e-mailed back to them.
I had not herd anything from them untill today, when I received a letter stating legal proceedings. I phoned their help line, and apparently they had no record of my second e-mail. I was told this was my fault, and I now had to pay the increased fine of £100 or go to court, because I hadn't contacted them within the set time scale.
What can I do?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Sam
PS if there is a better board for me to post this on, please let me know.
