Hi, I agree 100 percent with what Marcon said, above.

Also, you said "There is a part of me that thinks my time may be better spent looking for a better job and developing a skill into a more employable one."

YES!  Do that. Any job that has anything to do with minimum wage would be a big no-no for me. Just because a prospective employer thinks that's all you're worth, you have to know your true worth.

Also it's a verbal agreement, to be discussed over the next few days? What kind of outfit is it?

lincroft1710, above, got it in one. Value yourself and others will, too. Look for better and develop your skills.

In your situation I'd say thanks very much but no thanks. You don't even have to explain your decision.

All the very best to you.

Thank you for your kind words.

Last night I took a long walk and tried to think it through. Definitely doesn’t sit right with me, especially if this is before you even get in the door.

For what they want, they’d realistically need to split the job into social media and website creation/management and then a hands of worker who runs the daily operation. That salary would come out at a heck of a lot more than minimum wage for sure.

As for the type of outfit, I’m not too sure myself. I’ve never walked away from an interview with more questions than answers before!

    thanks again :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, help and advice.

just had notification that as part of the ‘further discussions’ there would be a trial shift and another interview to discuss things more. At this point, I’ve just had enough.

I’ll be letting the employer know that I’m not going to be attending this shift or starting any form of employment with them.

Trial shift - I take it they were expecting you to do  this for free. for example 7.5 hours with no pay. Did they say if you would get paid? If not walk away, i mean run don't stop.

That’s correct, no pay. Actually, it would’ve cost me as the parking isn’t free.

Absolutely no way am I doing that in a million years.

Just said thanks but no thanks… keep on looking elsewhere
  • Glad you have walked away from that one - so many red flags!
I'm a big believer in going with your gut on decisions like this. Any doubts and niggles I've had in interviews or communications about new roles in the past have literally always been a symptom of something bigger being wrong. Sometimes in life there isn't much choice - you just have to do what you have to do. But in OP's situation, where taking this job isn't essential - walking away seems very wise.
