I want a Health Check, should I go private?

Hi,

Im 45 and in reasononably good health. (I run about 20 miles per week, eat fairly healthy.... but also drink a little too much)

Its been on my mind to have a general health check (prostrate cancer/any cancer for that matter! heart, blood pressure etc). I basically want to get a clean bill of health.

I see the NHS offer the 'NHS Health Check', but I wonder whether I would get a more comprehensive service if I go private.

Has anyone on here done similar?

Thanks

You should have been offered one by now - they are every 5 years past 40, but they may be behind due to the covid restrictions
what-is-an-nhs-health-check, read that it tells you how to get one and how and what you are tested for.

It is a pretty comprehensive lifestyle test and will pick up on any issues that may cause you problems going forwards - yes they do a liver function test and test how big your blood vessels are ( signs of too much booze looking to give problems )

Prostate testing isnt done until 55, unless you have a close family member diagnosed. Bowel cancer testing starts at 60

Going private you can get tested for general fitness - on top of what the NHS offers, but it costs dearly and a good fit watch will already be giving you that information

Im 15 years older, I too get in the miles, I watch what I eat and I drink like a fish. So far they have flagged up that statins may be of use to me but Ive chosen diet and exercise over medication.

Just to say that bowel cancer screening is from 50 in Scotland.
