Applying for mortgage though Passport expired last month, no drivers licence :( is it still ok?

Hey all,

In a chain where selling house and buying house going through. My broker is applying for our mortgage, however. I don't have a driving license (only provisional) and I realised my passport expired last month. Would they still accept that as a valid ID? Or am I looking at having to get it renewed asap?

Each lender has its own list of acceptable KYC/AML documents, your broker will know who you are applying to and what their list are.

I'm pretty sure your provisional will be accepted but you need to ask your broker what is the criteria for that lender.

@icicat With mainstream lender broker apps, 9 times out of 10 the lender system will automatically confirm applicant ID electronically and (assuming you're a UK national) will not require the broker to upload copy of applicant ID.

However, most brokers will need to keep ID and proof of address on file so I would still ask the client to provide a copy of passport (or driving license if a passport isn't available or expired) and proof of address.

Where the lender does require ID proof, here's an example of a typical set of acceptable docs.

Best flag it with your broker so they are aware.

Thanks all, this puts my mind at ease a bit more until I wait for my broker to get back :) K_S thanks for the information. I'm also sure I have used my provisional to confirm ID in the past and no issues there. I've taken my passport photo just in case. If I do need to renew then I hope it's a fast process to pay extra. Though that's good to know they can check me out electronically.

The only difference between provisional and full licence is that you've proved you can drive - there isn't an enhanced ID check to get a full licence. So in theory it should work just as well for ID purposes.

They accepted provisional in the end. Good reminder to update the passport :)
