There's a couple of links in "I wanna ... fireguard/screen" which has disappeared off the first page of I wannas so have a look for that and you may be able to bag a bargain!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Are you in a SureStart area, or know someone who is? I bought a couple of safety gates for £10 each (SafetyDan RRP £20+) and was told they sell Fire Guards for £15.... unfortunately I'd already paid full price for mine!No reliance should be placed on the above.0

What is offered in each SureStart programme varies, so I don't know that they ALL offer cheap safety equipment. I know the one nearest where I live gives out a backpack with free books and runs a lot of activities.
The HV may be able to advise on other places to get safety equipment etc at good prices.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If you ask your health visitor she should be able to put you in touch with other services as well, i know for a fact that in Bury Lancs there is a service that provides everything you could ever need for baby available free all in excellent condition and some even new to anyone who needs it all you gotta do is ask, i'm sure there must be these services available in other areas. also try local baby/toddler groups especially council run ones there should be loads of info available.
it's such a shame that more people are not made aware of these services, a friend of mine is having her 4 th child after 3 grown up kids so everythings gone. they have provided her with clothes, pram, cot, mattress, bedding, car seat, safety gates etc etc, she's not had to buy a thing. and before you ask , no it's not just available to people on income support or low income, its available to all.
so make some calls and get what you need, thats what its there for. if you need any more info pm me with the area your in and i will do my best to find out whats available in your areaNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

its not easy or cheap bringing up kids, and sometimes you need all the help you can get.

Trafalgar and Screamin Babies, you're both very welcome. I think SureStart try to advertise what they're doing but if you're new to an area it can be hard to find out! Don't be afraid to ask the HV: she probably has details of lots of Toddler groups. If she doesn't, try the local library, phone local churches, hang out at the duck pond etc etc etc.
Even if you do not actually live within a SureStart area there's not usually a problem with attending any activities they run, but you might not be able to get the freebies.I know the book pack here is only available to people who live within particular council wards, but anyone can go to the groups, even if they live 'over the border'.
