Remortgaging ID documents - passport is maiden name

Hi all

We are starting the process of remortgaging and our broker has sent us a list of documents we need, one of which is passport.

It just occurred to me that my passport is still in my maiden name, where as everything else is in my married name. I didn't change my passport as before Covid I applied for a pre dated one in my married name but then Covid happened, the wedding was postponed, so instead they sent me a free one back in my maiden name.

Is this likely to cause an issue? I'd hate for us to get rejected on a credit check or something because my surname is different. Obviously I have marriage certificate.

It shouldn't do with the marriage certificate available.  However, it will get raised.

Passport is only required for ID.    There is no requirement to change your name on marriage.   However, its when you mix and match that it becomes more of an issue but as said above, its an admin issue easily resolved.

@ivyflood As dunstonh said, it should be fine as long as you have corroborating evidence where the names are different on documents like I'd, payslips, etc. Flag it to your broker as well so they're aware.

Credit check - your aliases (maiden name and married name) should get linked up automatically over time when you apply for credit with your new name so credit agencies should be able to match you to their records irrespective of the name. So it *shouldn't* cause you issues on that front.

    Thanks all

@K_S All my payslips are in my married name, as is driving licence and bank statements. The only other thing that isn't is our council tax bill which I gave up trying to contact them to change it! Yet on the polling card that came through for the recent elections it was my married name! Is electoral roll separate to council?

@TheJP I could use my driving licence. Since asking the broker (who wasn't 100% sure!) he sent a list and forms of ID are passport and driving licence so hopefully I'll be ok.

I suppose not everyone has a passport...

The provisional licence is a government form of ID but again check with the lenders criteria, its an annoyance but i don't see this hindering you too much in the process.
