Delight to announce that I've just made my final payment on my mortgage today, meeting my target of being mortgage free at 50 years old!!

Have managed to get there early by doing 10 bank switches this year & also my wife has done 8 (netting £3000 in the process which all went towards the mortgage payment today) - big thanks to everyone on MSE for their ideas and support in me reaching my personal targets!

Champagne in our house tonight to celebrate our milestone, raising a glass to everyone else on a similar challenge  :)

    Congratulations nice feeling I recall...

I cleared mine last September at 47. For a couple of weeks I felt like Kevin bacon in footloose. I checked my mortgage provider's online statement page for a few weeks till the statement was sent through.
Because I paid of a biggish chuck off over 2 day's from when I asked for a final settlement figure, they ended up owing me £5.31.... and no they didn't end up paying interest on it.
