Fairly standard, for working on a number of govt sites but the process should have been communicated in advance off applying.
Just be grateful it wasn't cleaning for a site that requires Developed Vetting (DV), thats a whole new level of intrusion into your private life.

Could just be a !!!!!! up? Someone ticks the wrong background check box setting up the advert and the HR drone processing the application doesn't show the initiative to query it0
