I know it used to be the policy in Tesco that a product past it’s bb date could only sold at a discount. I don’t know if that has changed, but I doubt it has.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.1

I would expect a BBE date to be earlier than a UBD.BBE to me should signify when the quality of the product goes down, and for me most products with a UBD lose quality before the UBD.Of course without BBE and UBD being present at same time on packaging we wont know if they actually are going to use shorter dates, I expect the idea is to make things easier for supplier and shops, so they not throwing away outdated stock.Personally I think this is ultimately a bad thing.
Ultimately I think they wouldnt be doing this if there was no benefit to the retailer.2 -

Best before on milk is a great idea. I regularly use milk past its date. It’s great that fruit & veg rarely have dates anymore too. Here’s to less waste and more ‘no dates on food’Yeah it was great fun when I used to get delivered mouldy fruit that wasnt edible.I now only buy it fresh directly. The one time I had out of date milk my doctor diagnosed me with food poisoning. Never again thank you.0 -

Never again thank you. That’s poor show, delivering it mouldy though, I assume they refunded. We never had such a thing as out of date milk years ago, you smelt it. Sorry you got food poisoning, I’ve only ever had that from milk that hadn’t been correctly stored.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. This is primarily because selling food beyond its use by date is a serious criminal offence and, as we all know, a lot of the population doesn't really understand the difference. It's just too big a risk for them to take so it's easier to adhere strictly to all forms of date coding.I have just binned six tomatoes that I bought within the past week. The packaging was open and had a code number on, they were not in my fridge. Its hot at the moment, but never had that before with tomatoes. I do sometimes keep them in the fridge.
