Car Tax Question

Options
My car tax runs out on the 31-12-07 and I have several questions to ask in relation to this.

1. Is it possible to tax my car now so that the new disk will begin from the 31-12-07.

2. How much does it cost to tax a Rover 220 2 Litre private car.

3. What are the procedures in the tax office, do I need to fill a form in etc?

Thanks in advance and I apologise for the naivety of my questions..

  • Hi

Not a car boff myself but will try to answer some of your queries.

1...You can apply for new tax 15 days before the old one expires. So if you renew now it is valid until 30/06/08.(6 months)
2...Dont know about a Rover but i have a 2 litre Volvo and it is £99 for 6 months.

only know for 6 months not to sure about cost for the 12 months.

3...If you do not have the car tax reminder that is normally sent out then you can fill in a form at the post office. Cant remember if you need proof of address but you will need a valid MOT and insurence certificate.

I was going to do mine online but with xmas postal ,as it is, i am not sure if it would arrive in time.

  • 1. Yes, you can tax your car 14 days before it expires if you have the renewal notice which is posted to you. You can even do it online and they'll post the disc to you.

    2. Probably about £180 for the full year.

    3. No, put a X in the six months/12 months box and sign the renewal. Take your insurance certificate and MOT certificate if your car is over 3 years old. And the money/cheque of course.

This is where you need to go to tax your vehicle:

Whenever I have done it online, I always stand by the thought that if it arrives after the other disc expires (meaning you will be on the road with an old disc showing on the windscreen) then it's tough on the authorities - you will have paid the tax and in any case the chances of being done on the 'failure to display a valid disc' law where you can be fined £200 or so is remote to say the least.
  • You should probably have received your reminder by now - you need this to do it on-line from what I recall - there's a reference number on it. The form will tell you how much the renewal is.
