Mortgage payment has not gone out as expected

Hi

I am very worried as my mortgage payment is due today and it has not left the account I have it set up with. The account and mortgage are with the same bank and it's nationwide.

I did cancel overpayments last month and also change my surname bur other than that nothing else has changed since last payment.

I am very worried.

If you have the cash spare, make the payment manually (overpayment) and then send a secure message (it used to be possible with NW, do they still offer that?) asking them why it hasn't gone out and that you have made the payment manually so it doesn't go down as a late or miss payment.

I've contacted them and they said it's due out today and if I have enough money (which I have) it will be taken. It just doesn't go out this late normally. Also my energy payment is supposed to go out and it hasn't but all my other bills have.

I've had a further message to say that the payment is including the overpayment (which I canceled last month)  and I'm confused why it would be and panicking too.

Leave it until maybe 3-4pm, if nothing has happened call them up and make a payment.

Your DD is set to go out on the 1st, it doesnt mean if it is not paid by lunch time you get a late payment. See what happens and then just make a debit card payment or bank transfer if it is required. Chances are if you paid tomorrow it still would not show up as a late payment.

The same goes for your utility bill.

I would not even know if my mortgage payment came out, I just assume unless someone tells me otherwise it has been paid.

It could be the lender.  If they forgot to take into account the bank holiday, it could be one day later than normal.

I have been on the chat and they said it's my overpayment causing a problem apparently I didn't actually cancel it. Because I don't have the full amount in the account it wouldn't have tried.
They canceled the overpayment and asked me to pay manually and I got confirmation of this was paid and they won't take direct debit. They overpayment cancellation won't take affect until next month but they said because I've made the contractual payment it won't go against me on credit file.

Thanks for your help. I was so stressed.

Now I have a text from them saying I don't have enough money in the account to pay the mortgage with overpayment and to have money in by 2:30 to get payment out.

I was told on the chat they wouldn't attempt to take it out again because I've made the contractual payment.

direct debits are not taken in real time.    That message is probably regarding the original payment.

That isn't quite how it works, the money is assumed to be in your account and the payment is made to the lender by your bank, then your bank looks at your account balance and finds it is short, which then causes the message you received about needing to fix the shortage, to avoid having to reverse the payment.
It all works fine when it works, just gets messy if there is not enough in the account to cover the DD.
Keep an eye on your bank charges as most banks do make a charge for a declined DD...

I don't know if it's related but I kind of recall when I had a Nationwide mortgage and Nationwide current account eons ago, they didn't use a DD to collect the payment, it was some other internal system and would go out from my Nationwide current account even if the 1st was a weekend.

    I might be misremembering!
