During this time of monetary pressures is it fair that car tax is paid twice for any given month in full, once by the previous car owners and once by the new keeper regardless of purchase date ?
Why is not simply rounded up to the end of the month and then.taken over. I'll tell you why , the government DVLA GET PAID TWICE FOR THE MONTH, EACH TIME THE VEHICLE CHANGES HANDS.
EXTREMELY UNFAIR AND MONEY MAKING UNDER FALSE PRETENSE.

Your not alone in thinking this is a British motorist rip off. Issue was posted on here in Sept 'DVLA - Road Tax - Feeling Swindled'.
Why should motorists pay more and not be fully refunded their road tax payment when vehicles are bought and sold. It's not the motorist fault DVLA's system for administering road tax payments and refunds is set up for full monthly calculations instead of daily. This is DVLA's fault. They provide a not fit for purpose system therefore they should be the one to bare the monthly road tax financial losses when vehicles are bought and sold.
Think it's time we popped Dept of Transport an email raising this unjust issue and request the Minister takes steps to rectify the unfairness of DVLA's current road tax payment/refund system for motorists.
We don't ask we'll never get.1 -
Its not rocket science though, the seller has already paid up front for the month of sale they can't claim a refund for part of an unused month, so the purchaser should only pay when that month runs out and starts a new period. No loss to the DVLA . BUT OBVIOUSLY NO GAIN.
i did write to the DVLA when they asked for my review of the online taxation service, no luck there though. We need a far bigger voice for the people, i was hoping Martin might notice 😁1
