Having recently seen the back rooms of a few charity shops (helping my gran reduce a lifetime's worth of clothing), I've become more aware of the limited space they have and wanting to make sure I donate things at an appropriate time. I almost always miss buying season appropriate clothing in mainstream shops, for example trying to find winter boots in January, so when is the best time to donate items? As a starter, I have a black tie dress and some wooly gloves - I'm thinking now and October?

I would imagine it's a good idea to donate things that can be worn as soon as they're bought, because people often buy for the current weather.
However, lots of people look ahead when buying for winter, so perhaps start to donate winter woolies around the time shops sell Christmas chocolates.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

The only time I have seen charity shops request weather specific clothing is asking for coats in the winter yet you are right in thinking stock would probably sell better if it was seasonal. However they cannot dictate when donations happen and they are often prior to a move or following a death for example. With storage space being at a premium they have to get donations sold asap. Dedicated charity shop browsers will know this and purchase year round setting aside seasonal garments or gifts as appropriate.2

I'm not sure how much of a trend this is, but I sometimes check for waterproof stuff (jackets and wellies) around festival season, June-Sept.0

Having lived 50 summers I am not fussy about seasons. I buy what I lie when I like, generally with sense of what to combine it / a season in mind. I'm less effective at getting rid of stuff, hence my wardrobes overfloweth: D
