  • If you don't like it, leave. That's what I did and I haven't looked back.

You're one person in an immense machine.

You can act professionally, do what's asked to the best of your ability and take it as another one of those things.
You can be bitter and express your opinion on a daily basis, you can do as little as possible and count down the days until retirement or you can leave.

Personally, I could never stand the constant complainers.
No one forces them to stay and there's a world of job opportunities to be had elsewhere.

You know how it works, up to you how you play it.

Are you on the higher grade? If not, then ask to be put onto it on the basis that you have the skills and training to be able to carry out the extra task (assuming you are willing to do it)

Otherwise, either - do it, think of it as 'other tasks as a assigned' OR apologise and explain that as you are not officially trained to do that task, and don't have the higher banding available to those with that training, that you don't think you are in a position to train someone else.
But be prepared to be seen as being obstructive, so consider whether you are likely to need the good will  of the person asking, any time soon.

World of a difference between training someone to advance their expertise and providing them with the localised information to enable them to do a particular task they have been assigned in a way that is found to have worked in your setting.
If it is the latter it is more akin to acclimatising a new member of staff to local practices and would be fairly churlish to refuse.

Whether the pay grade for the role has been enhanced by including this task in their job description, in order to satisfy HR that the role is at a higher grade is just box ticking to be able to recruit someone at that grade, which would all be connected to recruitment issues rather than any slight on your performance.

What grade did they advertise this role at, and if the higher one why didn't you apply?

Why not just do the job as well as you possibly can?
