Hi all,
I received a letter out of the blue today from Global Debt Recovery, the letter gave no info apart from a ref no. So I rang them to be told I owe £287 to Lloyds bank and Cabot finance.

This goes back to 2013 as unfortunately I went into prison then until 2021
the person I spoke to on the phone said there will be no one knocking at my door or any legal action, so I said I don’t need to pay it then, he said he can’t guarantee another company getting in touch with me
my question does bank debt etc not get cleared after 6 years of no contact ?

If you did not pay anything towards this debt between 2013 and 2021, it's going to be statute barred. Even if you got a CCJ, it's likely 6 years ago, so they need court permission to chase it.
What is happening is that the rules on SB debt are getting stricter on July 30, so the debt companies are pulling the stops out to see if they can extract a little first. After that, just tell them to SOIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Many thanks for the reply RAS very much appreciated.
I rang global debt recovery back to write down who the debt was for but was told they’ve closed it as in my previous call I said I weren’t paying due to it being statue barred
my question is now if they choose bailiffs or take me to court will I have to pay ? I’ve had no contact with them since 2013
just like to add I’ve moved 3 times since 2021 so they’ve tracked me down to my current address
thanks0 -

The rules as they exist are here
https://www.handbook.fca.org.uk/handbook/CONC/7/15.html
We won't know the detail of the new rules until 1 Aug but we know that the FCA is concerned about how SB debts are mishandled from this (Annex 2.4)
