Confusion Over New Government Child Support £ (Help!)

Options
Myself and my wife have our first child on the way. We are aware of the upcoming government scheme which in 2024 will give 30 free nursery hours. However, we have heard that some nurseries can’t provide the service for the money paid by the government subsidy and are planning on charging additional fees on top of the supposedly “free” hours?

We are trying to calculate nursery prices now, but it's difficult as we are receiving conflicting information on if we will have an unlimited 30 hours of free nursery care a week or if there will be hidden costs attached to it.

Thanks, James

It's 30 hrs per week for 38 weeks of the year, basically school term time. Averaged across a full year this amounts to about 22 hours free childcare per week. Depending upon the provider and/or your scenario you may be required to pay top up fees.

You may have to pay for extra costs like meals, nappies or trips.

It's best to contact your local nurseries directly to inquire about their policies and any potential additional fees. They will provide you with accurate information and help you calculate nursery prices.
