remortgaged - random santander payment?

I've just remortgaged from Santander to Virgin. The remortgage amount was more than we owed, so the solicitors transferred the balance to us last week.
Today a credit for £3k has appeared in our account just referenced as ANMF Credit?! From googling this appears to be a Santander /Abbey National payment - but I have no idea why we have it? Can't get through on the phone so just thought I'd ask here in case anyone can enlighten me?
