Hi, I hope I have come to the right place!
I attempted to make a payment to HMRC today. ie Making up a missing National Insurance 'gap' in my NI contributions from 2015-16. During that period I was self employed (I was running small CIC). However, the HMRC member explained that although I had been self employed during 2015-16 - that deadline had expired in 2017 and that I needed now to pay full years Class 3 NI (which was much more expensive ~ £880). Is this actually the case and could I challenge it? I am 65 by the way. Thanks.

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, but have you checked with the Future Pension Centre that filling that gap will actually increase your pension ?
Years prior to 2016-17 don't necessarily - if you have more than 35 full NI years prior to then it definitely won't, less than 30 and it definitely will, between 30 and 35 it depends on your specific circumstances.
If you post up all the details from your State Pension Forecast people will be able to say if it is worth pursuing that particualr year....0 -
Thank you so much. That was very clear. I will do as you suggest tomorrow 👍0
