P46 Advice Please

in Cutting tax
I will be starting a new job next week and I don't have a P45 so will be filling in a P46. I haven't earned anything in this tax year and I understand that the tax will be deducted on a week one basis. My query is when the employer sends the P46 to the tax office will they inform the employer of my earnings to date (nil) aswell as tax code and will this put the tax deductions right or will I have to claim a tax refund and the end of the year.

I don't think the employer will give that sort of information to the tax office for you. I would find out which tax office will be dealing with your affairs and write to them advising that you have not had any paid employment nor received any taxable benefits in this tax year to date. They should be able to issue a cumulative tax code to your employer which means if any refund is due to you it will paid by your employer rather than you having to wait until the end of the tax year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
