No they are not safe to eat. Take them back.

    Don't waste your time

They've been exposed to light for a considerable time and have produced solanine, which is poisonous.

If that is how you bought them, take them back

I stopped buying Jersey Royal potatoes a few years ago.
Over hyped, over priced & pretty tasteless to what they used to be 20 years ago.

I don’t buy them any more either, since they changed the breed…

Do not eat those green taties @sleepymans, if your stomach doesn’t reject them you’ll feel them burble the whole way through your system til they squirt out the other end.

The shop should get rid of whatever box you bought them from.

I read somewhere a few years back that years ago the Jersey farmers used seaweed to fertilise the soil.
This practice was banned & hence why they are flavourless now.
Not sure how true this is - but is does make sense.

This is true and the claim that they are now of a different 'breed' is wrong. The potato variety in question is almost certainly  'International Kidney' (you can buy it as a seed potato and grow it at home if you want)..Its original claim to fame was that it was available earlier than new potatoes grown on the mainland and, of course, that it had a very a distinctive and enjoyable flavour.

Ancient people (like me) have been grumbling about the loss of that flavour since at least the 1970s and the general opinion in horticultural circles that it is, as GillyLucy suggests, due to the switch from seaweed once used as a fertiliser to conventional feeds.

Apparently its not banned, just not economic. The theory in another article was that they are now forced under plastic. But everyone seems to agree the taste is not the same.
