Scottish Widows - Workplace pension and investing in individual shares

I am hoping this is a quick question and answer.

I have a workplace pension and I currently contribute £3,000 pcm into a mix of pens portfolio 2 and 3

I am thinking about changing this and investing £1,500 per month in an individual FTSE share (for at least 12 months).

Does anyone know if this is possible; I find navigating the SW website a bit of a challenge.

No its not possible. With Scottish Widows and most other workplace pensions you can only invest in a select range of funds and not individual shares.

Nope. The only way it would be possible would be to set up a separate SIPP, and to buy the individual shares through that.

If  you get salsac/  company match, then I'd suggest continuing with your contributions to SW, and regularly transferring from SW to SIPP.

The bigger question though is - why?
Most sensible approaches to pension investment are funds / ETFs and a mix of bonds.
