Annual Leave Calculation

Hi there

I'm having challenges trying to calculate my annual leave entitlement now I've changed my working pattern and hoped someone could advise please.

Full time employees working 37.5hrs a week in my company get 25 days a year (plus Bank Hols)

I work 30hrs a week, spread across 5 days and my holiday entitlement has been confirmed by my employer as 20 days which is calculated as 25 days prorated for part time working:

25 x 30/37.5 hours per week = 20 days

Is this correct?

I used to spread my 30hrs across 4 days a week and benefitted from more time off due to that extra day off each week - so my 20 days equated to 5 weeks off a year and now I only receive 4 weeks.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

If you work 30 hours over five days a week you should still get 25 days plus bank holidays. Assuming you work 5 six hour days.

I agree. Unless they want you to book it in hours...

Whilst your working pattern has changed, your number of hours worked hasn't, so your leave allowance won't change either.

Your choices are longer working days and longer gaps between them, or shorter working days and shorter gaps between them, but you're not going to get short days and long gaps between them!  Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to read.

Full time employees working 37.5hrs a week in my company get 25 days a year (plus Bank Hols)

    37.5/5 = 7.5 hour days x 5 a week.
(25 +8) x 7.5 = 247.5 hours holiday  (or 7.5 hours more in years like this with an extra BH)

    I work 30hrs a week,
    247.5 x 30/37.5 = 198 hours of holiday a year pro rata

    198/6 hours = 33 = 25 + 8 BH of your current length days holiday.

If your work want to count this as 20 normal length days (+BH) they would need to find a way for you to accumulate 1.5 hours leave credit for each holiday day you take.  They can't give you both short days and fewer of them.

I don't know why you're hoping you'll get a different answer 2nd time around - the number of hours you work (thus the part time element) hasn't changed, so neither should the pro-rated calculation.

Instead of one full day off extra per week, you're getting a little bit of it every day in terms of a shorter working day.  If you don't like it that way around, go back to 4 longer days a week!
