Competition remains fierce, with 'bribes' of up to £200 offered to those willing to switch (see Best bank accounts). So whether you wanted better service, interest on your savings or just free cash – tell us when you last switched? Or if it's been a while or you've never done it, tell us why.

Within the last 6 months.  Natwest were trying to force a contactless card on me.  I disagree with them, because they're an instrument of the surveillance society, so I moved to Nationwide to get a non-contactless card.
  • Switching anything is always a pain in the behind in my experience. With the time and effort I save by not doing it I could usually earn more than  I'm likely to save.

Hi I have constantly switched bank accounts over the last 10 years or more, in order to gain the rewards or better interest rates.  I have just tried to switch to from Natwest to HSBC ADVANCE but have been turned down and only offered a basic account. I am retired, single and  do not want a overdraft. I own my own property, have no debts, I have not had an HSBC account for over 5 years and as far as I can make out should be eligible for the account, Should I appeal to them or is it not worth the bother?
