slight spend day today, on the way back from training i popped to the car wash to get my car cleaned as it was filthy. £10 went on that, nothing else spent and nothing planned for tomorrow. monkey boy has begged to do something Friday so will be going to the cinema, another £23 gone on that. ridiculous costs here for things but i have said we are taking our own food as i am not paying their prices for food.0

bit more good news, i got the tesco loan statement and the balance remaining is 1085.25 not the £1447 i thought so it its last payment will be august
im hoping that would also mean his mbna card is almost cleared and there isnt as much outstanding as i thought as i got all the balances from clear score, will find out in the next couple of months.
no spend day today, got training to do and not planning on leaving the house. tomorrow need to return some bits to next as some of the bits i ordered monkey boy are not suitable. also need to go to the tip and the charity shop so will try get all that done in the morning before we go to the cinema, or at least put it in the car so that we can do it on the way home from the cinema.1 -
Great that the Tesco loan balance is less than you thought, that is a nice bonus!

been a busy month doing nothing! i got paid so i have thrown my wages into the mini pots and awaiting his lordship getting paid at the end of the month to reset the budget for next month.
no real progress on the debt front, i have requested to close my sole tsb account, there is a couple of quid on my tsb credit card (literally under £3) so when that is clear I am going to close that credit card.
the other bigger news, and im not overly freaking out just being cautious in case is his lordship emailed me in a panic a couple of weeks ago saying his company are selling ships and he is worried about loosing his job. Im being positive as 1. they advertised literally 2 days before he emailed me advertising for his rank on another type of ship that he is qualified to sail on, just doesnt have as much experience as the current gas ships he is on. 2. they advertised mid may for his rank for the type of gas ship he is on. I cant see why HR would let them advertise for those positions if they were going to need to reduce crew.
3. he has been invited to the officer conference in a high cost european company at the end of august, why would they offer him an all expenses paid trip to a scandinavian company in the height of summer (so not cheap flights or hotel) if they were going to get rid of him.
i am being a bit more cautious just in case, and im not overpaying anything at the moment. I am going to stash any excess cash in a "slush" fund, rather than pay it off a balance just in case the worst happen. if it doesnt, well then it just means that our emergency fund has had a huge head start and i can then raid that when i get the all clear that his job is secure and pay things off.
other than that its been a bit crazy on the personal front, just making sure that everything is done, house is clean, we are where we need to be for when in the correct clothes. just a few weeks to go until the summer holidays and I am ready for a break. will be the first time in years that his lordship and myself will be off together for the summer, so lots of family time planned.0 -
our bare bones budget would need 3.2K to pay everything, i take home 1300, so 1.9K to find, which i could manage for say 3/4 months by raiding all our little pots and the extra slush fund that i have just created. by then his lordship should have gotten another job if the worst happens. also thinking over the years we have made some overpayments to the mortgage so i would imagine we could talk to the bank and get maybe a 2/3 month payment holiday on the conservative side of things, plus we have a 2.5K overdraft on the joint account, 20K available on his mbna card, plus another 15K between his empty barclays and halifax, and then my barclays which isnt quite empty but would probably say 5.5K free on that.
there's options, id prefer not to need the cards again in the future but its reassuring knowing we have got that back up should we need it.0 -
If he did lose his job would he qualify for redundancy? Both me and hubby were made redundant in January. Thankfully I found a job straight away and hubby a couple of months later. I hope it doesn’t happen to your OH. Even though it worked out ok for us, and likely will for him it’s an awful situation to be in. For us it has at least fully lit the lightbulb (after I had a partially lit lightbulb moment a couple of years ago!).
You sound like you’re in a good place to manage should it happen but I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you x28/12/24

unfortunately no redundancy as hes not yet been with this company 2 years and hes employed under a singapore contract if i remember correctly.
we will be fine, if everything does go belly up, we also have some jewellery we can sell. i didnt include it in my soa as last time i got blasted for it, but that was pre marriage and debt that we had the money to buy those things.
i am hoping that this scare is what he needs to get himself on track and realise we cant keep robbing peter to pay paul as if we were debt free i do think we could manage on just my wage if we had to and i now work in education so my role is pretty secure.1 -
well further update and it makes me feel better that hes not loosing his job is hes now most likely not home when planned, but a month later! not sure if thats a good or bad thing really.
the positive im taking from it is the longer on ship the more leave he accumulates (pretty much equal to a day of leave earned for every day he is on ship) so that will help the bank balance if he does get let go.0 -
Well it’s a shame he’ll be gone a month later but positive that it doesn’t look like he’s losing his job. Hope it stays that way and that he can have a good long break when he gets back x28/12/24

Sorry to hear about the potential redundancy, that is really stressful for you both. It’s a good idea to keep money in the slush fund that is easy to access, and for now just meet those minimum payments.I think like you say, this might be a wake up call for your other half. Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s causing so much stress for you both and not having those payments hanging over you would really help.Keeping my fingers crossed for you - I’m sure you’ll be able to sort this!1
