Cheapest Way to send Heavy Parcel to US

Hello!

I'm trying to send a parcel on for a friend in Ohio. It's just a fancy board game, but it turns out it's around 8kg and a bigger box than expected! Quotes to send on insured (for £100), tracked and signed for are coming in at around £90. 

She isn't in any rush, we just need to make sure it gets there safely. Does anyone know if there's a reliable alternative service other than by air please? Or will she just have to admit defeat and pay the £90? I'm not used to sending parcels abroad and haven't had much success from Google. I just get redirected to the usual parcel comparison sites which go by air.
