Zappi vs Hypervolt vs Ohme

So, Zappi and Hypervolt allow you to charge using solar throughout the day, and you can happily use them alongside any cars that Octopus support in order to use the Intelligent tariff

Zappi also does fit in well with other MyEddi products but apparently the Hypervolt is a bit sleeker

The Ohme charger works on any car, yet doesn't support the ability to charge using solar which is a shame but it does crucially allow you to use Octopus Intelligent regardless of EV manufacturer

I'd hazard a guess that if you've got an EV, a proper EV tariff would be better than flux for example. I'm not then sure which type of charger would be best for the job?

Zappi would be the one for me, for reasons mentioned + excellent support from Myenergi.
    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!

Do you by any chance use Octopus Go/ Intelligent?

I do then wonder if it would still be worth using the Zappi if you're not diverting power via solar? Unless of course you are?

My experience of the Hypervolt has overall been very positive.  Their customer service is superb - it's a UK-based call centre, there's minimal waiting times, and the agents seem to actually know what's going on.

Also positively, it's a good looking unit and seems to work well.  And as noted, it can work with solar (solar only; solar including grid if <1.4kwh generation).  I've had issues with the solar-only setting (works until the clouds come, and then doesn't come back on again), but I'll try that again when the weather turns.

Less positively, it isn't working well with our Renault (occasionally need plugged and unplugged repeatedly before the car starts charging), and it's not yet compatible with some of the Octopus tariffs.

This seems to be a Renault-specific problem, as my Renault contact has confirmed that France is aware and they're working on a resolution.

Thanks. Looking a bit further, I've seen that GivEnergy are looking into creating an EV charger that works like the Zappi and are looking to create some kind of Eddi style diverter too

It'd be nice then if the Givenergy one could also work like the Ohme charger in order to work with Octopus Intelligent. If so, that'd probably be a decent choice assuming you've already got Givenergy products anyway

That's very good if that's the case. It does appear that Givenergy are doing similar so I can just buy any car and either use a Zappi or a Givenergy one.

I think I'd sway to Givenergy only because it's a single manufacturer's eco system. They're also apparently making their own solar hot water diverter which again is decent

If they weren't, Zappi would perhaps be what I'd buy along with the Eddi
