If you are using 310 kwh in June when you have solar panels then something is not quite right.
Do you not make use of the generation to heat water and do other things or are you charging an EV?
Thank you - No we are not making use of the generation at all at the moment. Thats why I'm thinking about getting batteries.
  • There's an Air Source Heat Pump (air-to-water) if you don't want to burn fossil fuels.
Agree with Reed - A heat pump installed correctly would make sense as it will dramatically improve efficiency if the household isn't poorly insulated.
Thank you @Reed_Richards & @Screwdriva. I'll take a look. So you think it's worth getting one of those instead of batteries?

I agree that does seem a lot. Last June I purchased 128kWh, but that was including 60+ for vehicle charging: no other battery though!

You'll still need a battery but it should reduce your consumption in the winter months dramatically if done right, leading to less of a draw from the grid. Octopus Energy install Daikin. Heat Geek installers typically install Vaillant AroTherm+ units. Both are excellent.

    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 5000 Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!

Thank you. Do you know what sort of cost I'm looking at? It's a 3-bed semi-detached.

It's extremely variable and depends of whether your radiators and cylinder need installing/ replacing. Assuming they do, I'd say ~£7K assuming no pipework needs replacing (no micro-bore). And this assumes you qualify for the boiler upgrade scheme grant of £5K.

Just know that this can seriously vary and the first step is to get in touch with Octopus Energy or a Heat Geek installer for a survey and quote.

What size is the solar system in KWH peak, and your export?

    thank you @markin

Does 3.7kWp sound right? I'm not sure what I'm looking for?

    I don't export at the moment. I don't have a smart meter.

You don't need a smart meter to export. 14 panels giving 3.7kWp is 265W. I'm guessing you've had this a while and it's under FIT? If so you are likely to be exporting power but you might not have a dedicated export meter, but that's only true of older installations.
    8kW (4kW WNW, 4kW SSE) 6kW inverter. 6.5kWh battery.

    Thank you @ABrass

I'm not receiving any money for anything that I export, and it's not under FIT.

    They were installed in 2020

The 265W figure - what is that? Does it mean the amount of KW the system can generate?
