Dental implant failure

Can a dentist be held to account for implant failure if they failed to seat the cement retained bridge correctly (not fully seated )and it was a suboptimal fit , and also failed to act upon it after my hygienist noticed it was showing signs of failure from the onset ( 3 monthly hygiene appointments adhered to ) and this was dismissed till several years later and resulted in a  failed attempt to save it and then it's subsequent removal . This was all at my expense (££££'s )and the cost now bearing with me to rectify this (££££'s ). This was a three tooth bridge on two implants so i now have a very large gap , the remaining implant is fine . My dentist did not make reference to this when challenged but has used smoking and periodontal disease as a reason for the failure , > I welcome opinions

Well yes, if you have evidence that any professional (or tradesman) you engage has been negligent and you have suffered a detriment you can look to them to make good your losses and / or compensate you for your injuries.

An expert professional opinion would be a good start. Without that you won't get very far.

    Would agree with Undervalued.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Unfortunately the failure rates for smokers is high and combined with active periodontal disease even higher. Many/most implantologists will not place implants on smokers or those with active periodontal disease. Perimplantitis is the number one cause of failure of implants.
You will have to pay for an expert opinion to see what options you may or may not have.
