State pension

My wife's 66th is 25th August 2026 however her pension start date is 27th January 2027.

Why is her pension around 5 months after her birthday?

    The reason was to prevent an unfair cliff edge where one person born the day after the line in the sand would have to wait an extra year.   So, it was phased on a monthly basis.

    Ditto the original re-equalisation of women's State pension ages from age 60 onwards.  Although some women (not me!) Continue to argue that it would be 'fair' for women born up to 31 December 1959 to receive their pensions from 60, but for their friends and sisters born 1 January 1960 onwards to wait until they are 66+
